Beach Apparatus Drill (Life-savers Reenactment) at the Old Harbor Life Saving Station, Cape Cod National Seashore, Provincetown, MA, July 18, 2024 (second part). This video shows six minutes of the later part of the reenactment. It depicts the surfmen sending out the breeches buoy along the rope (the "hawser") that has been fired to the mast of the wrecked vessel. This video (which is the second of two) shows the surfmen erecting a structure that enables the mariners to travel in the breeches buoy from the mast of the wrecked vessel over the water to safety. Keith, Chad and I (Clive Metcalfe) wrote this sixty years ago and as I approach my 80th birthday it's still wonderful to know so many people still love our song.
I would like to thank you sincerely for your role in bringing such a beautiful piece of music into the world.
I'm 70 years old, and to this day, I believe this is the most beautiful song ever written and performed. I've heard it countless times and it never, ever gets old.

Who's Groovy?
I was 17 when this song was played on the radio. It's a pity they didn't have an extended version with added verse on the B-side. It's too short, thanks to the limits on 45 rpm records.
Sixty years ago we'd hear this on KRLA and KFWB. What a great song. Now I'm 77. That doesn't seem reasonable. But this was before Tonkin Gulf. Five years later I was over there myself. Let's hear it for RUclips! If you're reading this, Nat - remember hearing this on the radio?

Looks like a good band however the music was a little too loud drowning out the vocals . Need to get a little better balance also the cowbell seemed a little loud also don't know why unless you had it mic'ed somehow. Other than that it was a very good job .

I just heard the song today on the radio.... WHAT ARE THE BOTTLES???!?! What did they contain?? I thought it was a tourist/drug reference, plus the song sounded very vintage like from the 30's
The little green bottles were debris from the pre-plastic days, washed up onto the shore, collected by Maura while she and Pete were visiting Florida. He pulls it out of his pocket at 2:31 in the video and then uses it as a slide.
